Skulking about in London

Lovely long exposure work from lovely London…

I love to just wander the streets of London. It’s my favorite city and I always find beautiful things to aim the camera towards. This was one of those evenings. I was all over the place and whenever I see a busy street (at every turn in London LOL), I like to set up the tripod for a long exposure and capture some passing cars.

The Tower Bridge

A long exposure of the Tower Bridge in London…

I’m excited to return to London really soon! London has been my favorite city for a long time, and I will return soon and wander those beautiful streets once again. I captured this on my last visit. I put on my 10 stop filter and took a long exposure here of the Tower Bridge. That long exposure helped smooth out the choppy water of the River Thames and gave it a nice, peaceful look.

Underneath London

Underneath a couple of train stations in London, this tunnel is quite fun to see and shoot!

I love London, and am looking forward to visiting again in a few weeks. I plan to take some pictures. :-)

I took this on my last visit. It’s a walkway that runs underground between two train stations - Kings Cross and St Pancras. I had seen pics of it online before my trip, and just kept wandering around until I found it!

The Shad Thames

An interesting section on London known as the Shad Thames…

This is an interesting part of London, just south of the Tower Bridge. I spent some time wandering there on my last trip, and plan to revisit this spot again when I visit London again in August (so excited!). It’s sort of a dockworker area, right next to the river, full of old buildings that I believe used to be warehouses and things like that. Nowadays it’s some stores and restaurants, etc but still interesting and beautiful.

Blue hour in London

A lovely evening begins in London…

Blue hour is my favorite time of day to shoot, and London is quite possibly my favorite city. So you can imagine how happy I was when I was out shooting blue hour in London! This was alongside the Tower of London, staring at the Shard across the River Thames. Such a beautiful part of a beautiful city!

The Sherlock Holmes

A quick snap of The Sherlock Holmes pub in London…

Ah, lovely London! My favorite city! I just love to visit London, and am always trying to think of new ways to get back and visit again. It’s just so photogenic and now that I have been so many times, I feel really comfortable there and know my way around pretty well. This is a great little pub not far from Trafalgar Square. I’ve taken countless shots of this place, and been inside for a pint a few times as well.

Darkness in London

It’s late in London, and I am out with the camera. Surprise! :-)

This shot was captured well after dark one evening in London. We had been out shooting and having fun all day, and were wandering around in this section of town, sort of the Financial District if I recall correctly. Anyway this beautiful building caught my eye so I climbed up onto the pedestal base of a statue, set up the tripod, and fired away. I have really grown to love shooting at night, something I rarely did in years past. But now it’s one of my favorite things to do, just wander in a city at night with a camera. So fun!

London nights

A double-decker bus speeds past me in London…

I absolutely adore London. It’s probably my favorite city that I’ve ever been to. Something about it just gets to me. I spent about 10 days back in January of this year, and had so much fun wandering all over town and taking photos. I find the city to be incredibly photogenic, and of course there is a lot to see there.

One evening early in the trip I have been out shooting for a while, and stopped in for a bite at a pizza place. After warming up (and filling up), it was time to get back out on the streets. I decided to set up and do some long exposures, hoping for a double-decker bus to pass by. Luckily it wasn’t too long of a wait!

Sunset in England

Sunset in Eastbourne, England…

This was a lovely sunset along the southern coast of England. We were staying nearby and went to Eastbourne to catch the end of the day. It didn’t look like it was going to be much of a sunset, but likely it ended up like this, so as you can imagine we were quite happy about that!

The Scoop

A night time shot of the Shard and the Scoop, in lovely London. My kinda town!

Oh man, I have so many London photos. Just. So. Many.

I love London and when I was there earlier this year, I literally fired like a maniac. I came home with 9,000+ photos from a 10 day trip. And honestly, I could have done more but I got tired, and sometimes I get lazy. Yeah, I love to travel and take photos but we all get tired at times. Regardless, I came home with a LOT of shots that I like and that I will be sharing here over the coming days/weeks/months/years. There’s just a lot. It won’t all fit in 2018, or even 2019. So, how about you keep coming back? :-)

The back alleys of London

The Shad Thames in London is well worth a stroll, day or night. It’s an industrial warehouse sort of area but it’s quite interesting and photogenic!

This is an interesting part of London!

When I visited London back in January, I made it a point to visit the area known as Shad Thames on at least a couple of occasions. It's an old industrial warehouse area and in my opinion it is quite awesome! I strolled through here during both daytime and at night and found it equally beautiful both times of day. There are some shops and eateries but mostly it seemed somewhat empty (although that could have been that it was January).

It's right by the Tower Bridge, which everyone visits anyway, so if you are going be sure and swing by here. It's on the south side of the River Thames, just off the bridge. Ask around and you can't miss it - and you will be glad you strolled through here! Oh and bring the camera! :-)

London lights

A car passing me in London was a perfect chance to capture some interesting light trails…

Oh how I love to capture light trails!

I know it's probably a bit of a cliche, but capturing light trails from passing cars is just plain fun. You are always trying to time it just right, and sometimes you miss, so you keep trying. But when you get that one perfect shot when the light trails curve out of the frame in the distance, well then it's all worthwhile! I only had one chance for this one, as the street was really empty, so I was quite happy when I saw it on the back of my camera a moment later!

Dark nights in London

A dark night in London, and I was out with the camera capturing shots of this lovely city.

An evening out and about in London with the camera - took home lots of photos!

I wandered quite a bit when I was in London back in January. Being there by myself - instead of with the family - meant I was free to do whatever I wanted, and whenever. So basically I just was out shooting all the time, which was great. I captured this one over by the Tower Bridge, on the south side of the River Thames. You can see part of the bridge way in the distance. There are quite a few office buildings there and it's a great place to wander with the camera...just sayin'!  :-)

Borough Market nights

An evening at Borough Market in London...

I've wanted to see Borough Market for years, and finally made it there on my recent visit to London!

I'm not sure why exactly, but I have a thing for these little markets in cities that I visit. It's not like I actually shop there or anything - well, other than buying a meal perhaps - but I am just drawn to them for some reason. So I made a point to visit Borough Market in London while I was there. In fact, my hotel was a short walk away so I visited a couple of times.

These photos were captured one evening as I was returning from shooting elsewhere. I wanted to get the entrance to the market, which is actually hard since it's on a narrow side street. So you can't really back up to frame the shot very much. Instead I used my wide angle and backed up as far as I could go. It worked, as it usually does.
