Skulking about in London

Lovely long exposure work from lovely London…

I love to just wander the streets of London. It’s my favorite city and I always find beautiful things to aim the camera towards. This was one of those evenings. I was all over the place and whenever I see a busy street (at every turn in London LOL), I like to set up the tripod for a long exposure and capture some passing cars.

Covent Garden

Night in London, and I was out shooting at Covent Garden…

Ah, lovely London - so much to see, so much to shoot! I do love London, and each time I visit I try and stop by Covent Garden for a least a quick visit. I find the main structure (pictured here) as well as the surrounding area to be quite beautiful and photogenic. I captured this on my trip there a couple of years ago, and did edits to this photo in On1 Software.

60 Seconds in London

Here’s a mini-film that I compiled from footage I captured recently in London. Hope you enjoy it!

While I was in London recently, I kept my DJI Osmo Pocket handy and captured quite a lot of video footage as I wandered around the city. It was great fun. But truthfully, I didn’t know what to do with the clips I captured. I had intended to make a vlog, but since I was running around here and there with my daughter, I just never got around to it. So instead, I ruthlessly whittled the footage down to this little 60 second mini-travelogue, which highlights a few of the places we visited while there. It was fun to make, and I think I will do more of these on future trips. Thanks for watching!

Covent Garden at night

A night shot of a musician at work in Covent Garden, London…

From my last visit to lovely London…I captured this gentleman playing music in Covent Garden while wandering over there one evening. It’s a beautiful part of London and one well worth visiting. I will be returning to London soon and hope to pop over here for a little while to check it out again!

The Tower Bridge

A long exposure of the Tower Bridge in London…

I’m excited to return to London really soon! London has been my favorite city for a long time, and I will return soon and wander those beautiful streets once again. I captured this on my last visit. I put on my 10 stop filter and took a long exposure here of the Tower Bridge. That long exposure helped smooth out the choppy water of the River Thames and gave it a nice, peaceful look.

Underneath London

Underneath a couple of train stations in London, this tunnel is quite fun to see and shoot!

I love London, and am looking forward to visiting again in a few weeks. I plan to take some pictures. :-)

I took this on my last visit. It’s a walkway that runs underground between two train stations - Kings Cross and St Pancras. I had seen pics of it online before my trip, and just kept wandering around until I found it!

The Shad Thames

An interesting section on London known as the Shad Thames…

This is an interesting part of London, just south of the Tower Bridge. I spent some time wandering there on my last trip, and plan to revisit this spot again when I visit London again in August (so excited!). It’s sort of a dockworker area, right next to the river, full of old buildings that I believe used to be warehouses and things like that. Nowadays it’s some stores and restaurants, etc but still interesting and beautiful.

Blue hour in London

A lovely evening begins in London…

Blue hour is my favorite time of day to shoot, and London is quite possibly my favorite city. So you can imagine how happy I was when I was out shooting blue hour in London! This was alongside the Tower of London, staring at the Shard across the River Thames. Such a beautiful part of a beautiful city!

Leadenhall Market

Leadenhall Market in London - a great place to visit and photograph!

I’ve shared photos from this lovely spot in London here before, but I love it so much that I just wanted to share another one. :-) It’s really an interesting and beautiful place, and I find it incredibly photogenic as well. Though crowded during the workweek, I have twice shown up earl yon a weekend morning and had it almost entirely to myself. Of course, that’s my preference anyways since I prefer to shoot this sort of scene devoid of people. By the way, this place was used to represent part of Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter movies. Yeah, it’s that cool. :)

The Sherlock Holmes

A quick snap of The Sherlock Holmes pub in London…

Ah, lovely London! My favorite city! I just love to visit London, and am always trying to think of new ways to get back and visit again. It’s just so photogenic and now that I have been so many times, I feel really comfortable there and know my way around pretty well. This is a great little pub not far from Trafalgar Square. I’ve taken countless shots of this place, and been inside for a pint a few times as well.

Darkness in London

It’s late in London, and I am out with the camera. Surprise! :-)

This shot was captured well after dark one evening in London. We had been out shooting and having fun all day, and were wandering around in this section of town, sort of the Financial District if I recall correctly. Anyway this beautiful building caught my eye so I climbed up onto the pedestal base of a statue, set up the tripod, and fired away. I have really grown to love shooting at night, something I rarely did in years past. But now it’s one of my favorite things to do, just wander in a city at night with a camera. So fun!

Framing the shot

Along Carnaby Street in London late one winter afternoon…

When I travel, I generally like to find street scenes that are pretty empty. Thus that leads me to getting up for a sunrise shoot a lot of the time. But when I last visited London, I didn’t do that too much and instead shot well into the night. One late afternoon I was along Carnaby Street, which is a fun and photogenic part of London. I was mostly just wandering and looking, but of course I had my camera ready just in case. When I saw this guy taking a shot of the scene, I thought it made for a good shot as well. But I kept him in it. :-)

Nights on the bridge

A long exposure in London wherein I captured the light trails of a passing boat…

This was a fun little shot. I was taking a long exposure of the Millennium Bridge in London with St Paul’s Cathedral in the background. During the shot a boat passed by, and I was able to capture it’s light trails, which you can see at the bottom of the frame. Kind of a fun accident!

Leake Street

An amazing graffiti tunnel in central London…

Such an amazing spot in central London! I love to shoot graffiti, it’s just something I love. When I am in London, I always take a quick detour near the London Eye and pop over to Leake Street to fire away. It’s constantly changing - it’s a public graffiti area, after all - and there is some really amazing urban art here. Well worth a stop if you are nearby!
